Brenton prepares an intimate dinner for Delie. Delie meets Bessie's friend Julia but when Brenton seems receptive to Julia's advances, Delie packs up and moves to Melbourne to continue her art education. Delie receives an offer to travel overseas from her patron, Alistair Raeburn, but Brenton makes a surprise appearance and proposes marriage. Delie's refusal to give an answer sends Brenton back to Echuca. Delie follows him only to learn he has already departed on a long voyage. Borrowing Bessie's horse and buggy, Delia chases after the Philaelphia and accepts Brenton's proposal.
