In May 1597, Gou gives birth to a baby girl, Sen. In the spring of 1598, Hideyoshi falls ill and attempts to persuade those close to him to accept Hideyori (formally named Hiroi) as his successor by summoning them to his sickbed. Gou is worried about Hideyoshi, but hesitates to visit him because of her ill feelings toward him. However, Hideyoshi's condition worsens day-by-day.
