What's the point of having the most powerful beings on the planet…fighting side-by-side with somebody that clearly can't even carry a plate without dropping it or making some physical joke and messing things up in the middle of an important mission? The answer is simple: Affirmative action. Which is really great. Where else those "mascots" would find jobs?
