With a combination of broad laughs and some downright bizarre characters this is not simple, nostalgic comedy, despite its 1947 setting. This scene-setter parades a deranged RAF officer, a mad vicar and a friendly widow, all providing fertile ground for humour to back up the central characters - two young men on the make.
