The attackers have never been caught but the attack was witnessed by police officer Robert Bowles. The Prosecution argue that Bowles chose not to intervene until the attack was over and criminally failed in his duty, perhaps motivated by racist ideas. However Bowles insists his delay was in order to call for help in a dangerous situation and witnesses are conspiring against him.
