As she matured, she achieved quick success on Broadway in Fiddler on the Roof and as a singer on The Tonight Show. Now, she is a much-loved singer, Broadway performer, and actress who's won numerous awards, including Grammys, a Tony, Golden Globes, an Emmy, and an Academy Award nomination. Her personal life hasn't always been as smooth, with a self-professed breakdown following her mother's death. She then married Martin von Haselberg, gave birth to daughter Sophie, and launched All Girl Productions, which led to the hugely successful Beaches. An Emmy-winning performance on Johnny Carson's final episode of The Tonight Show inspired her return to the New York stage with Experience the Divine. At 50, she returned to Hollywood to star in the hit First Wives Club. Barbara Hershey, the narrator and her costar in Beaches, portrays Midler as a wise and humble woman who is courageous and compassionate. This video is filled with personal photographs and video images as well as archival footage of Midler's performances onstage, in movies, and on Broadway.
