Emma misinterprets his intentions as a proposal of marriage. Emma hears James and the reverend talking and believes that he wants to marry her. She tells Rebecca and Rebecca tells her parents. As the annual dance, Sims spreads the word of the upcoming betrothal. When James finds out, he realizes Emma is in for some embarrassment, so he and the reverend seek a way to fix the situation.
