Still in disguise, he runs to Shintarō saying Tonbei is ill and needs help. He guides Shintarō to an abandoned temple and attacks him as he tends Tonbei. Tonbei manages to warn Shintarō that the only way to kill Shinigami is by striking him with the back of the sword, not the blade.
