Ieyasu, however, pretends ignorance by saying that the war is against the Uesugi family, and appoints Hidetada as the commander-in-chief. Although uncertain, Hidetada accepts his fate and prepares his troops for battle. In Osaka, Mitsunari rises up against Ieyasu, and takes the wives and children of those feudal lords who took side with Ieyasu as hostages. Tama, who was baptized and renamed as Gracia, is also regarded with hostility.
