The conflict plays right into Madame Amalia's plan, as does Grace's doubts about the school's participation in the tournament. While Grace contemplates forfeiting, Coach Max helps Amalia in her scheme to make sure that she abandons any hope that the Spike Team and the college will succeed. And, with the Spikes teammates turning against one another, Luther and Armand decide that Ann Mary must be the one to discover the Jewel of Perseverance. Julio takes Ann Mary on an eye-opening motorcycle ride, but Jo still doesn't believe that she has what it takes on the court. The girls aren't united, and are challenged during their match against Team Best. Will Ann Mary finally step up, and will the girls learn to trust her?
