Detectives quickly find that the student has dealt with adulterated cough syrup. They suspect this is the key to the case. The search focuses on the victim's partner: Marvin Naumann. He was forced out of the business shortly before. When Marvin flees, he becomes a suspect. Did he kill Philip to take over the cough syrup business? The victim's stepfather, Dr. Michael Tietze, is also targeted by the investigation because he was blackmailed. Is there a connection with Tietze? Tietze becomes the victim of an armed attack. The grieving pharmacist and father of the victim, Stefan Cornelius, also behaves increasingly conspicuously.
