Before the battle can begin, Rachel and Sawyer arrive to provide backup. Lear refuses to battle alongside them, then proceeds to defeat the thugs by himself, taunting them as they flee. He then notices Cheren approaching them from the distance, leaving Rachel and Sawyer to deal with him despite Sawyer's attempts to get through to him.
