When Wasim washes up on Bassett Beach Ken fears the town is about to be invaded by boat people of dubious background. Nicky, however is touched when Wasim tells her that he has arrived from Pakistan to find Cherie Ruskin, a local teacher. Unfortunately, Cherie seems less than thrilled by his arrival, and Ken feels vindicated. But Cherie takes pity on Wasim and decides that she has only one choice- to marry him! Ken and Nicky argue about this risky step, and Ken ends by taking Wasim into custody.
