A young, unmarried immigrant is pregnant. While Colin is sympathetic towards her and allows her to stay with the McGregors, others in town are not so forthcoming. Meanwhile, Colin has a visit from the church administrator. Colin is eager to use church funds to support the town's new arrivals but the administrator refuses to help them on the grounds they are not Christian. However, Colin feels there is another reason for the administrator's lack of assistance.
