Kanbe (formerly named Mankichi), who is now working to be an aide of Masamoto, joins the war for the first time. While remaining under threat of the Akamatsu family, a political marriage is arranged between the Kuroda family and its allied country. As Kanbe's childhood friend Otatsu is chosen as the bride, Kanbe and Otatsu get separated despite being drawn to each other. On the wedding day, a tragedy happens.
