Pregau is a small Austrian town where a swamp is hidden behind civilian facades. The unfortunate policeman Hannes Bucher returns to this dark place with his wife and daughter. He makes an unforgivable mistake, and his drunken niece Rosa is crushed to death. Hannes is desperately trying to cover up the traces of his involvement in the tragedy, and soon he is assigned to conduct an investigation against himself...
