Satsuma-Choshu troops fought under the Emperor's banner and when the shogunate's army loses the battle, Yoshinobu flees back to Edo, leaving his men behind. Yoshinobu asks Katsu for help, however, he insists that the shogun should seek Tenshoin's help. Despite a series of misbehavior by Yoshinobu, Tenshoin sees Yoshinobu and together with Seikanin, decides to persuade the Imperial Court to pardon Yoshinobu whom she says is her family.
