The King surprises everyone by announcing that new evidence has come forward which disqualifies Dan from the quest. Dan's parents were killed when Dan was very young and he barely remembers them. But a man has now stepped forward and claims to have proof that he is Dan's real biological father. If his claims are true, that would mean Dan is not of royal lineage and is not eligible to compete for the Glendoran throne. But when Art, Cody, and Carrie try to look into the man's claims, he's run over and nearly killed in the parking lot of a hotel. Only then does he admit that he's lying as part of a plot to discredit Dan.
